(September 29, 2011 Washington D.C.) –   Have you started packing yet? Here are a few things to be sure to remember as you prepare for the NAAEE conference in Raleigh NC, from October 11-15, 2011.

  • Bring a coffee mug. If you forget yours, NAAEE mugs will be for sale in the NAAEE conference office.
  • Bring a water bottle. If you forget yours, NAAEE and EENC water bottles will be for sale.
  • Bring a tote bag – or funds to purchase one of the creative déjà vu workshirt bags from the Welcome to NC table in the convention center Grand Lobby.
  • Bring your smartphone, so that you can view lots of conference documents via the QR code on your Anvil shirt (purchase in the NAAEE conference office) and participate in the real-time surveys and the daily Twitter chats.  (A few iPads will be available to borrow from the Volunteer office.)
  • Plan to select and purchase a hand-thrown pottery cereal bowl to use each morning for your cereal, yogurt, and fresh NC fruit, and then enjoy it as a souvenir to take home.
  • Expect fabulous fall weather, with cool nights. Dress in layers; bring a rain jacket, but you probably won’t need it.
  • Bring your PowerPoint presentation (on flash drive) and handouts, if you are giving one. (Remember, if you are presenting a round table or in a community Hands-On room you do not have a LCD projector or access to electricity.)
  • Bring auction items you are donating; the Auction Committee will be in the registration area beginning on Wednesday to collect items.
  • Bring lots of cash and checks (or a credit card) to buy things at the auctions and the Artists Corner & Bookstore in the Exhibit Hall.
  • Bring a musical instrument to play at the after-hours sing-along.
  • Bring a camera (please consider sharing your photos with our photographers for later posting on our web site and Facebook pages).
  • Bring your resume if you’re job hunting or a job posting if your organization has an opening for posting at the Science Café.
  • Bring your business cards, to take full advantage of the networking opportunities with educators and business leaders from 30 countries!
  • Create your own personal schedule! Login to the NAAEE site: www.naaee.net/user/login then click on the “Browse the Schedule” link under the conference logo. That will take you to the scheduling system where you can browse the program and add sessions to your own schedule.
  • Bring an extra bag or prepaid shipping ticket to send home all the resources you’ll gather at the conference; EENC has made arrangements to help ship items too.
  • Above all, bring your enthusiasm, sense of wonder, and eagerness to learn a “forest” of new things!

See you soon in Raleigh!
