Plenary Panel
Climate Change, Oceans, and Society
With oceans occupying about 75% of the earth’s surface, their importance to the health of the planet and its plant, animal, and human inhabitants is unmistakable. NAAEE has assembled an international panel of climate change experts who focus on climate/ocean relationships. They will offer nuggets of their research and describe their perspective on the future challenges to and resilience of the world’s oceans in the face of climate change.

Keynote
Capacity Building for Conservation: Sea Turtle Politics, Economics, and Education

Jean Beasley is the founder and executive director of the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center. A retired teacher, Jean uses the subject matter of charismatic sea turtles to enthrall young and old with stories of how one person can make a difference in the world. In order to raise funds for the food, medical supplies, and facility operations, Jean has become a master of politics and economics. Come hear how Animal Planet’s 2007 Hero of the Year describes her work in building capacity for sea turtle conservation. Meet Jean’s ‘education assistant’, Lennie, the blind Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle.
