WHAT LIES BETWEEN

In addition to fantastic concurrent and plenary sessions, so much will be going on around you that you won't know where to look first. EENC has created an "Ambiance Committee" this year to decorate the convention center with all kinds of visual treats.

NAAEE Annual Conference also offers opportunities for networking, socializing, getting outside, and giving back to the community. Here are some of the highlights that you'll find inside and outside of the Raleigh Convention Center.

You’ll Flock To See This ...Pack your binoculars and be ready to spot flocks of colorful, child-created birds.  Where?  Inside the Raleigh Convention Center, of course!  Look high, look low.  A diversity of species will be displaying their brightly papier-mâchédand painted plumage!  You’ll find them on Twitter too! Decoarations are courtesy of art teacher Carolyn Graf and her K-5 students from Hunter Gifted & Talented Elementary School in Raleigh, NC.

Notable Quotables .... Be inspired by our handcrafted luminarias that illuminate words of wisdom spoken by world renowned environmental luminaries. Fashioned by volunteers from cereal box chipboard, these quote lanterns will enlighten and inspire you, courtesy of environmental educator D’Nise Hefner, Blue Jay Point County Park in Raleigh, NC.

EE Paparazzi...Be on the look-out for a special photo galler-EE!  Our tree-riffic photo logs showcase images of children exploring and learning in nature, as well as environmental educators in action.  We’ve also included the contest judges’ picks for best NAAEE pix provideed by Elizabeth Burke of Mud Pie Planet in Vienna, VA, Sue Bumpous of NAAEE staff,  NAAEE's conference photographers Harry and Debra Spillman, and Kay Bullard of Cumberland Soil and Water Conservation District in Fayetteville, NC.

Not Your Ordinary Jack o’Lanterns ... Glowing pumpkins featuring hand-carved autumn designs will welcome you to North Carolina and NAAEE’s opening ceremony!  We think you’ll agree that our locally grown and artistically sculpted pumpkin lanterns are gourd-geous, as arranged by Kay Bullard of Cumberland Soil and Water Conservation District in Fayetteville, NC.

Awesome Autumn ... Nature-inspired, volunteer-crafted autumn leaves will flutter above the NAAEE registration booth, reminding all NAAEE conference participants to fit in a special field experience.  The reason?  ‘Tis the season to see North Carolina’s fall foliage a’blaze in the mountains, piedmont and coast!  And remember…take home memories, "leaf" only footprints...arranged by environmental educator D’Nise Hefner from Blue Jay Point County Park in Raleigh, NC and Lois Nixon, Environmental Educators of NC, Conference Host Chair.

2011 is a Banner Year ... Banners, reused and creatively rendered, will be unfurled to welcome you to NAAEE’s 40th Anniversary Conference in North Carolina!  Student artists illustrate our state’s natural wonders to convey this year’s conference themes, a sense of place, and our shared purpose in EE. Banners are designed by art teacher Carolyn Graf and her K-5 students from Hunter Gifted & Talented Magnet Elementary School in Raleigh, and environmental educator Jackie Trickell from Historic Yates Mill County Park in Raleigh, NC.

Life…Can you fit it into a shoebox? Life is fantastic when you have great EE lessons to share!  Formal educators who attend NAAEE’s “Teacher Day” on Saturday, October 15th will have the opportunity to receive a colorfully collaged “Life Box” to add new life to their classrooms!  100+ boxes hand-decorated by 100+ high school student volunteers, courtesty of NC Project WET State Coordinator Holly Denham from NCDENR Division of Water Resources, Environmental educator D’Nise Hefner from Blue Jay Point County Park in Raleigh, NC, and REI Raleigh.

THANK YO__ ...All that’s missing is “U” to spend two minutes to say two special words…”Thank You to our fabulous Sponsors who made the 2011 NAAEE 40th Anniversary Conference in North Carolina possible!  Visit a “Thank You” station where a well-stocked supply of recycled stationery and pens awaits your creative ways to express your sincere gratitude.
