Martha C. Girard
At-Large Board Member (2011 to 2013)
Martha’s goals for NAAEE:
As a Board Member of the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE), it would be my goal to increase awareness of the organization, promote the many resources available to environmental educators, and strengthen its relationship with the member base and partner organizations so they in turn become advocates and champions of NAAEE.
To accomplish this, I would provide marketing guidance and support to elevate the valuable resources available to members and educators and craft a “non-invasive” communications plan that would strengthen the relationship with the member base and partner organizations so they in turn become champions for the NAAEE.
Realizing funding of such initiatives may be beyond the limits of the current budget, I would accomplish this marketing initiative by utilizing social media outlets as well as work to leverage the resources of NAAEE partner organizations.
Current professional position and institution:
Director, Educational Media, Public Broadcasting Service (PBS)
Areas of expertise and interest:
Accomplished marketing executive with over 15 years experience in the consumer and media markets. Expertise in all aspects of consumer and trade marketing including cause partnerships, new business development, contract negotiations, interactive marketing, asset management, and trademark licensing. Proven track record in revenue generation, recognized as a strong leader who excels at developing and executing growth strategies.
Background related to environmental education and NAAEE:
During my tenure with the National Park Foundation as Director, Marketing and Corporate Relations, I was responsible for all aspects of the corporate philanthropy and marketing program for two Proud Partners of America’s National Parks: Eastman Kodak Company and American Airlines. I developed and executed marketing and grant programs that achieved partner and National Park Service (NPS) objectives and was fortunate to have the opportunity to work on projects that reached visitors of our national parks. One in particular, the Nature Valley Trail Restoration program, was particularly rewarding. This program funded Student Conservation Association (SCA) interns in five national parks throughout the summer months, providing a needed resource to the NPS while creating stewards of the interns.
In my role as Director of Educational Media for PBS—which is a corporate member and sponsoring organization of NAAEE—I create and execute promotional strategies for all of our DVD and digital products, including our key environmental titles such as Going to Green, Becoming Green, and Growing Greener Schools.
