2011 NAAEE CALL FOR LEADERSHIP

Nominations for Board Positions

Do you remember the time, the place, the person that touched your life, that opened your eyes and helped you see the big picture, the interconnectedness of it all? Do you recall that moment when you stopped and said “I have to do something! I can make things better! I can BE the change…”?

Well, right now, there are environmental educators somewhere out there “being the change”, inspiring minds, young and old, helping make things better. NAAEE works on behalf of those educators, and today, we need to be there for them more than ever, to provide them with the tools they need to succeed, the network of people and organizations they need to feel they are  not alone and the voice they need to know they are being heard. Would you help us be there for them?

We are looking for inspired professionals to help lead our efforts as we navigate through times of exciting changes and renovation. NAAEE is the professional association for environmental educators in North America. NAAEE’s small, professional staff is assisted by dedicated members, including those who are elected to the Board of Directors as well as the leaders of NAAEE Committees, Advisory Boards, Task Forces and Special Interest Groups (formerly Commissions)(CATS) . To fill these roles, we seek diverse individuals to join forces and make environmental education a standard in the lives of people everywhere.

Call to Action: We need you!

Your leadership in NAAEE is critical to our success. We are asking NAAEE members as well as environmental professionals to step forth and volunteer to serve in a board position—either by self-nominating or nominating colleagues to lead our association in the coming years.

We are currently seeking dedicated environmental professionals to join the NAAEE Board of Directors through participating in our fall election process. The open positions include: Secretary and President-Elect (2012 to 2013) and three At-Large Board Member seats (2012 to 2014).

We are seeking board members who are willing and able to: advocate for EE and represent the association to potential new members, donors, sponsors, and Affiliates; mentor new committee and SIG chairs and build their leadership skills; and help implement our new strategic plan. Nominations for Board members from Mexico and Canada would be particularly welcome, as would those from local, state, or federal government agencies and the business sector. As always, we remain committed to growing the diversity among NAAEE’s leadership and membership; therefore, candidates representing diversity are particularly encouraged to apply.
